Obituary for Oscar Keith Hagerman

Oscar Keith Hagerman, June 11, 1951 - March 21, 2023

Oscar K. Hagerman was born the son of Oscar Harold and Daisy Elinor (Speace) Hagerman on June 11, 1951, in Alma, MI. He spent the early years of his life in Ithaca and moved to Farwell in 1983, where he has lived ever since. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 until 1971. When he returned home from the war, he worked in the oil field, and then in construction. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, trapping, and riding his Harley. He was a talented carpenter who spent many hours working on wood projects, never satisfied until the result was perfect.

The stories he told were often “too BIG to be true,” like the times he hung out with Fred Bear, or when a rat bit his ear in a trench in Vietnam, or hiking miles into the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, and finding himself surrounded by a pack of wolves (in the dark). But any amount of investigation always revealed that the stories were true, just as he told them. He loved telling stories, sharing jokes, and teaching his grandkids how to do things “the right way.” He will be dearly missed.

Oscar is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Judy, his daughter Kate and her husband Bryce Van Buskirk of Farwell, his three grandchildren that he was so proud of: Wyatt, Anna, and Jarrett. He is also survived by his siblings; Neal and wife Lynda Hagerman of OH, Terrie Smith of Ithaca, Glenda Hagerman of OH, and numerous relatives and friends. A service is planned for Monday, March 27th at 1:00 PM at the Campbell Funeral Home in Farwell. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1PM. Neal Hagerman will officiate. Burial will be in Surrey Township Cemetery. Please consider memorial contributions to Friends of Seney National Wildlife Refuge or Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program. Donation envelopes will be made available at the Funeral Home. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.cambell-fh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Farwell, MI.
