Obituary for James Lee Haggard

James Lee Haggard, born September 23, 1938, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2022.
James was born in Cash Arkansas to James and Edna Haggard. He was the third of four children, Joseph, Grace, James and Shirley. He is survived by his big sister, best friend and baseball buddy, Grace (Helmut) Wuerzinger. James’ family moved from Arkansas to the downriver, Michigan area where his dad found work with the Ford Motor Company.
James was married to his doting wife Alice for 60 years. He is preceded in death by his son, Guy Russell, and survived by his wife Alice, daughter Jill Money (Craig), grandchildren Dena (Dustin) Pedley, Kristine (James) Harris, Rachel and Steven Money and great-grandchildren Connor and Emma.
James was known by his friends as Jim, Jimmy and James Lee. He went into the army at a young age, where he was a military policeman stationed in Germany. When he returned from the service, he became an electrician at the Ford Motor Company and Rouge Steel Plants where he worked until he retired and moved to his beloved Spring Lake.
Jim was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. He coached baseball for many years, acting as a mentor for many youths. He continued playing ball into his 50’s and remained a sports fan and armchair coach until his death. He was very excited for the Tiger season to start so he and his sister could talk rosters and games together.
He was also a talented pool player, playing in the Harrison and Pine River Pool Leagues for many years, where he met many life-long friends.
Jim was the past President and organizer extraordinaire of the Twin Lakes Hunting Club. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed these activities with many of his friends and family.
Jim was feisty, energetic and loved life. He will be missed by the many friends and family whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life Service is planned for Friday, April 1, 2022, at Campbell Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell. Visitation will run from 1-3 PM and the service will begin at 3. Pastor Connie Bongard will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #558 in the funeral home parking lot following the service.
