Herbert Junior Varney age 74 passed away on Sunday, December 19th, 2021 at MyMid-Michigan Midland. Herbert was born in Mt. Pleasant on January 3, 1946, one of thirteen children to parents Herbert, Sr. and Leta (Winters) Varney. Herbert married Gail Hoisington VanBuskirk on January 23, 1965 at Gilmore Church of Christ in Farwell. Herbert and Gail lived and breathed the “farm-life” and raised their sons on their dairy farm. During High School he served as a member of Future Farmers of America. He loved farming and loved to hunt & fish. Herbert was most definitely a “people person” and enjoyed neighborhood gatherings and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and very large extended family. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, his sons Cary Varney and Jen, Alan Varney and wife Cheryl, and honorary son Alan Post and wife Anita. He leaves cherished memories with his grandchildren; Brandon Varney, Alayna Brown (Nathan), Cayla Varney, Denise Baron (Kenneth), Eric Varney; grandaughter, Heather Varney; honorary grandchildren: Chad Simon, Casey Post, Cory Post, two great grandchildren; Adalyn and Brantley Brown, brother Albert Varney and wife Linda, and Shirley Abbott. Herbert is preceded in death by both his parents, Herbert and Leta Varney, mother and father-in-law, Chester and Dorothy VanBuskirk, and siblings; Robert, Francis, Vernell, Herbert Leo Varney, Betty Lou Wilder, Elmeda Keehn, Genivieve Crawford, Richard, Gerald, and Fred Blaisdell. Honoring Herbert’s wishes a cremation has taken place and a celebration of Herbert’s life will be planned for a date to be determined later.
