Dorothy Carthine Bertrand – Age 83 of Lake passed away at North Woods Nursing Center on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Dorothy was born to parents Eugene and Patricia (Joyner) Howell in Goldsboro, North Carolina on March 20, 1939. Dorothy married Leon DeGeer on November 9, 1957 and they were blessed with two daughters. She then married Gerald Walter Bertrand on April 25, 1970 in New Baltimore, MI, and they remained together until the time of his passing in November of 1996. Dorothy was a devout Lutheran and member of the Living Hope Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed ceramics, puzzles, gardening, and country music, especially that of Loretta Lynn.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Vicki Pitt (Raymond) of Lake, MI and Tammy Hawley also of Lake, brothers Bill Howell and Joe (Juanita) Howell, all of Goldsboro, NC, grandchildren Raymond Pitt III (Kenny), Adam Pitt (Kim), Thomas Hawley (Katie), and great grandchildren, Emily, Maci, Riley, Zoe, Blake and Greyson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Bertrand, her parents, Eugene and Patricia, her sister Ann, son-in-law Thomas Hawley, and her daughters’ father, Leon DeGeer.
According to her wishes a cremation has taken place. There are no services scheduled for Dorothy. She will be laid to rest in Garfield Township Cemetery in Lake, MI.
