Obituary for Donald Alvin Melius Sr.

Donald Alvin Melius, Sr.- age 89 of Farwell, passed away at his home, surrounded by family, in the early morning hours of June 29, 2021. Donald was born on September 25, 1931, in Lansing, MI to parents Albert Alvin and Lucille Vera (Tilson) Melius. Following High School graduation, Donald enlisted and very proudly served with the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956. He took his training as an aircraft mechanic and maintenance technician. He earned a National Defense Service Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal. Donald was married on December 14th1985 to Mary Ann Bacon at the Methodist Church in Dewitt, MI. He served as supervisor of an asphalt crew for the City of Lansing. Donald and Mary were parents of four children, and now enjoy 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Donald was a volunteer fire fighter in Dewitt Township; a member of the Lansing Motorcycle Club, the Capital Area Sportsman Club, and had many hobbies which included woodworking, leatherwork, square dancing, line dancing, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, building and riding motorcycles, was State Champion in trap shooting, and loved golfing, especially with sons Don and Carl. Donald is survived by his beloved wife Mary, sons; Donald Alvin Melius, Jr. and wife Mary of Dimondale, Timothy Melius and wife Joyce of Lansing, Carl Pawluk and wife Jackie of St. Johns, daughter Virginia Crump of Lansing, grandchildren; Daniel, Elizabeth, Whitney, Taylor, DJ, Macy, great-grandchildren; Auguststorm, Jazper, and River, brother Rodney Melius and wife Connie of Farwell, and sister-in-law, Ivy Melius of Shreveport LA. He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Albert Melius, sister Judy Irene Melius and his parents. Services are scheduled for Thursday, July 22nd at 1PM at the Trinity Baptist Church in Farwell.
