Tom was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, especially for Brook Trout from the stream at the cabin in the woods. He enjoyed camping and hiking especially with church groups and family. Tom and Helen were charter members of the UMC in Frankenmuth in 1962 and continued to serve in many ways. Tom served Farwell United Methodist Church as a trustee, as Chairman of Finance, on Leadership Councils and also Stewardship Committees. Other community involvement in Frankenmuth was through being President of the Jaycees and the Optimist Club. After retiring from the work force, they moved “up north” in 2000 making their home in White Birch Lakes in Clare County. It was there in Clare County where Tom gained fame as “The Popcorn Man” volunteering making and selling popcorn at Mid-Michigan Hospital every week for 20 years as a fundraiser for the hospital. A celebration of life is planned for Tom on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023 at 11:00AM at the Farwell United Methodist. Pastor Ray Francis will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Please consider memorial contributions to Farwell United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be made available at the church. When the weather warms up, Tom’s ashes will be scattered in the Memorial Garden at Lake Louise Christian Camp, a place near and dear to Tom’s heart since his youth. It was there as a teenager that he committed his life to Jesus, and as an adult was baptized in the lake. When the boys were young, Tom and Helen rented a cabin for a week in the summer. Then in 2001, a summer program called Horizons, especially for folks over 50 (or 60 or 70) to spend a week in a cabin in the woods was offered, which Tom and Helen attended for 10 years. Many happy memories of campfires, hiking, canoeing, bible studies and christian fellowship were made. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
